UIS COVID-19 UPDATE

For a safe return to school, UIS has made the health and safety of our community our priority to prepare for the 2022-2023 school year. Below are all the precautionary measures that need to be practiced by all members of the community for everyone’s well-being and safety. We will continue to update any news/resources regarding COVID-19 as it becomes available.

2022 UIS Covid-19 Arrival Guideline

01. DESIGNATED RESIDENCE

  1. To prevent the spread of the COVID-19 infection, students and host families are required to follow this guideline in a systematic way. Students must bring their own face mask, a thermometer, and a personal laptop for schooling purposes so that they are able to attend daily lectures.

    Guidance Instructions:
    •Keep a mask on in common areas all the time, except inside individual rooms.
    • Record your body temperature and report it to the UIS counselor when you feel COVID-19 symptoms.

    • Maintain a physical distance between you and other people in the house. Penalties and Fines for Breaking Quarantine rules in Canada: Students must be aware that penalties for failure to comply with Canada’s Quarantine Act include:
      - Up to $750,000 in fines and/or
     - Imprisonment of up to 6 months

02. ARRIVAL PROCEDURE

Upon arrival at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), students experience arrival procedures.
1. Screen documents and ArriveCAN app submission 
2. Confirm identity with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)
3. Collect luggage
4. Provide proof of a valid COVID-19 pre-entry test and Leave the Airport

03. AIRPORT PICK-UP

Once students arrive at YYZ, students should call and/or text via using an online application (Kakao Talk, Zalo, WeChat) to the airport pick-up service team to inform the arrival. Toronto Pearson Public Free Wi-Fi is available, or students could use their own roaming service if they wish.

Arrival in Terminal 1
(1) Proceed to exit Gate E. (If Gate E is closed, please exit from any opened Gate (ex. C or D) and walk towards Gate E to meet the UIS Airport pick-up service team driver).

(2) Inform the UIS Airport pick-up service team that you are at Gate E.

(3) Wait a couple of minutes and the driver will be there with UIS signage and/or the student’s name. While waiting for the driver, get the UIS Student Profile you received from school and show it to the UIS Airport pick-up service team driver.

Arrival in Terminal 3

(1) Proceed to the exit Gate C and walk towards Post #23 (if Gate C is closed, please exit from any opened Gate (ex. G) and walk towards Post #23 to meet the UIS Airport pick-up service team driver)

(2) Inform the UIS Airport pick-up service team that you are at Post #23.

(3) Wait a couple of minutes and the driver will be there with UIS signage and/or the student’s name. While waiting for the driver, get the UIS Student Profile you received from school and show it to the UIS Airport pick-up service team driver.
